Win Funding to organise a workshop or conference
Call deadline 21st June 2017
Proposals are invited from postgraduate research students to organise and run workshop(s) or a conference. The event should involve a group of postgraduate research students from at least two of the following faculties: LUBS, ESSL, Arts Humanities & Cultures. The funding for the event is provided in order to give applicants the opportunity to develop their transferable skills. These skills include bidding for funding, project and people management, budget management, networking, teamworking etc. The event should also provide opportunities for the workshop/conference participants to develop their transferable skills. To be eligible for funding, proposals must demonstrate how the event develops transferable skills in the participants and in the organising team.
Funding of up to £500 is available. Awards will be made on a competitive basis: applications which detail activities that develop the transferable skills of all participants in proposed events will be looked on most favourably for funding.
NB – You must get your supervisor’s and postgraduate research tutor’s consent before you submit an application.
SCOPE:The event should aim to attract around 20 or more graduate students, and should include one or more academic staff (e.g. as invited speakers). It is a requirement of funding that organising committees must be made up of students from more than one Faculty within the the LEAP training hub (i.e. LUBS, ESSL, Arts Humanities & Cultures). The theme for the event should be clearly defined and the ways in which the event will develop transferable skills in organisers and in participants should be explicitly identified.
The organisers must acknowledge LEAP training hub funding in their publicity (e.g. state that the event is funded by the LEAP Training team www.leaptraining.leeds.ac.uk)
Transferable Skills Training and Development: The proposal must include firm details of how the transferable skills training will be delivered within the event’s timetable. Simple examples of suitable training would be
- a timetabled talk/development activity during the conference which develops transferable skills.
- video feedback for presenters
- what the training will be,
- who will take part,
- the learning outcomes for participants,
- who has been confirmed to deliver the training
