Win Funding to organise a workshop or conference
Call deadline 22nd June 2018
Proposals are invited from postgraduate research students (PGRs) to organise and run a short event, such as workshop(s) or a conference. The event must involve students from at least two different Faculties. The funding for the event is provided in order to give applicants the opportunity to develop their transferable skills. These skills include bidding for funding, project and people management, budget management, networking, teamworking etc.
The event should also provide opportunities for the event participants to develop their transferable skills. The proposal documents must therefore demonstrate how all involved – organisers and participants – will benefit from transferable skills development.
Funding of up to £500 is available for the event. Awards will be made on a competitive basis: applications which detail activities that develop the transferable skills of all participants in proposed events will be looked on most favourably for funding. All proposals will be reviewed by an Awarding Panel which includes senior academics.
NB – You must get your supervisor’s and postgraduate research tutor’s consent before you submit an application.
The event should aim to attract around 20 or more participants, and can include one or more academic staff (e.g. as invited speakers). It is a requirement of funding that organising committees must be made up of students from at least two different faculties.
The theme for the event should be clearly defined and the ways in which the event will develop transferable skills in organisers and in participants should be explicitly identified. In particular, the proposal must include firm details of how the transferable skills development will be delivered within the event’s timetable.
The proposal should include details of the following:
- what the development will be,
- who will take part,
- the learning outcomes for participants,
- who has been confirmed to deliver the development.
The organisers must acknowledge OD&PL funding in their publicity (e.g. state that the event is funded by OD&PL, https://www.sddu.leeds.ac.uk/)
